Happy 1st Birthday Genevieve!!

Happy 1st birthday Genevieve! Well you won't believe it but your birthday started off with rain, yes RAIN! in 88 years only two July's have had any measurable amount of rain, and lucky you, your 1st birthday was one of them! We got a bit behind setting up because of the rain but we got going ok and before you knew it the rain clouds broke, the humidity poured in and the sun was blazing! You had so many people come to help celebrate your birthday, you are one lucky little girl.

The County Fair theme was a hit and Daddy did a great job BBQing 100 hot Dogs! Uncle Scott helped Daddy get them all wrapped up, while Lori helped helped me finish all the decorations. You had over 40 people come through to wish you a happy birthday. You were not interested in all with your cake. I don't know if it was because you were hot, tired or both, but you didn't care that there was a cake there. You didn't want to touch it or eat it. Later that night I gave you a cupcake and you were a bit more interested in it then.

Once people started to leave a bit I got you in the pool in your new floatiee Judy and Adam got you. You cried (like always) but once you settled in you only gave off a whimper now and then. About 5:30 I took you home and you knocked out. A 3 hour nap and you were as good as new. It was perfect because it gave Mommy and Daddy time to put things away from your party. I wish I had more photos of the party but I was running around like crazy to get everything done. Enjoy the ones I was able to get Genevieve!

12 month photos

A day early but we had to get them done so we would have a complete set on display at your party tomorrow! I can't believe this is the last of the number onesies. I will have to come up with a new tradition to do every month for you now.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Photos with RIchelle, OC Fair

We were lucky enough to book your one year photos with Richelle back in January! Well, after seven months the day was finnaly here to take your photos. We met Richelle at the front gate and had a great time exploring the fair as she captured so many of your cute poses. You had a mini melt down (turns out you were hungry) but once we got you back on track we took some really nice photos! I can't wait to see the finished product!

Wash Time Entertainment

Mommy doesn't let you in the laundry room much because 1) it is to small 2) it isn't baby proof and 3) you like to take stuff out of the recycling trash can (see #2). When you do go in you are very entertained by the washing machine, especially if it is on. You also love picking up and moving our shoes around the house. It is hard to find  match!

Party Madness!

Do the projects and craft ideas I come up with for your party ever end? The answer is no. I need to stop looking at Kara Party Idea blog, because I keep coming up with new ideas! You were a good girl and played well by yourself tonight and let me get a lot done, thank you Genevieve!

Night to Myself

For the first time (since maybe you were born) I had the whole night to myself. Daddy's friend Dave, who he goes to the Dodger games with, mom watched you. Daddy brought you over so by the time I got home from work you were already gone. I worked on stuff for your party, watched TV, went to Costco, did the wash and picked up the house. When you came home you were so sleepy and went right into your crib. Mommy needs a lot of Genevieve time tomorrow! I enjoyed my night to myself but missed my baby...

Party Overdrive

Your First Birthday Party is this upcoming weekend Genevieve and Mommy is in overdrive trying to get all of the projects done in time. You like to "help" mommy with things a lot. I got your centerpieces done today with a little help from you of course! I weighted them down with rocks, I hope they won't blow over!!

Saucedo Family Reunion

It was time for the annual Saucedo Family Reunion. It was at a different location then last year and we had lots of parking this time around! Last year at this time it was your "due" date and there was no signs you were coming anytime soon! Here is a photo from the same day last year:

It was nice afternoon to spend catching up with everyone and eating some really good food! Daddy and Eron won the egg toss competition this year and you got to spend some more time with your cousin Landon. Looking forward to next year!

Loss and Life

Today started out on a sad note. We learned out neighbor Regnia had passed away while we were in New York and today was her service at her parents home. She was a wonderful person, caring and giving. I just saw her a few weeks ago as me and you were driving down 2nd Ave. We stopped to talk for a few moments, I can't believe that is the last time I will ever get to see her! The service was very nice and she had a ton of people who cared about her.

From there we went to Julia's step daughters 4th birthday party. Sylar had lots of different themes happening, Power Rangers, Princess, Wow Wow Wubbizes (?), and Dora. You had a blast hanging out with the other kids and revisitng some of your old baby stuff we gave to baby Alex. You LOVED playing in the play house, and cried and cried when it was time to go. How come I wonder if we had it our house you wouldn't love quite as much?

Travel Games

Who needs toys Genevieve! You kept yourself amused by climbing in and out of our suitcase all night. It is easier for you to get in then to get out but with a little practice you are a pro now.

Last chance! Leave a Comment

Just a reminder to all our readers to leave a comment or two! At the end of Genevieve's first year (fast approaching!) I am going to print the blog into a book, comments and all for a keepsake for Genevieve. Kind of like a yearbook of her first year. Don't be afraid that you will say something silly or wrong, Just let Genevieve know you were a reader on her blog! Plus it makes me feel like people are actually reading this thing!

Home Owner Excitement

Tonight we got a little bit of that joy that comes with the joy of owning a home. A branch from our neighbors tree fell and fell on our power line that connects to the house. Lucky enough it just put stress on the line and didn't rip the line out of the box. Edison came by, cut the branch and let us know what we needed to do to get it fixed. Lucky for us our neighbor is paying for an electrician to come over and take a look and fix what is broken.

Back Home

Back to the real world today Genevieve! Grandma came and picked you up this morning and it was off to work for mommy and daddy. The rest of the night we spent unpacking and putting things away from our trip. It feels good to just rest for a bit!

New York: Time to say Goodbye!

Today we caught up on some of the sights we didn't get to see in the rest of our travels. We checked out of our hotel, left our luggage and headed into the heart of Brooklyn. We visited the sight of Ebbots Field, where the Dodgers played before they moved to Los Angeles. To show you how upset people in Brooklyn still are about them leaving, on the Cyclone sign that was dedicated in the late 90's it said "Unlike the Dodgers, the Cyclone will never leave Brooklyn". Sad they tore down such a historic building but people didn't care much about preserving historic buildings until very recently in history.

Next we took the subway all the way into Times Square. After a bathroom stop we went souvenir shopping and got some cute things to take home with us to remember our trip with. We did go into the Toy R Us to look at the 3 story Ferris wheel inside. Next time we go to New York I will take you on it! Federal Hall was our next location and I enjoyed touring the inside (I have never been in, I have always come after hours). Lunch off the street cart and on the way back to the hotel to collect our luggage. Since we had plenty of time we took the A train to JFK (Cabs are so much $$) and had plenty of time to get to our gate and get ready for our flight. You slept for quite a bit on the flight and were a pretty good girl (for the most part!). Grandpa Gil picked us up and dropped us off at home, Night night time! SO tired from traveling and we have work tomorrow morning...

New York: Day 5

Our last full day in New York City! The weather has heated up and it is sticky out! Breakfast was Dunkin Doughnuts, I didn't see what the big deal is, but some people are obessed with it! With our healthy breakfast behind us we headed off to pay our respects at Ground Zero. Saint Paul's church had a nice display honoring all those who were lost. It is also the church George Washington attended (yes it is that old!).

We walked down and went to Trinty Church and saw were Alexander Hamilton was buried. We checked out Wall Street, the NY Stock Exchange, Federal Hall and the Wall Street Bull. Since it was Sunday everything was closed up but we could take lots of great photos. We got Subway for lunch (the sandwich not the train) and got on the boat to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We did the Ranger Tour of Liberty Island and learned all about the Statue and how it came to be what it is today. Ellis Island we self toured and you took a nap.

In the evening we didn't have any plans so went to Juniors again and got an egg cream, went to the hotel pool (to cold!) and shopped a bit at the stores by our hotel. Dinner was at Applebees and you loved the chicken that was on my salad! Last day in New York tomorrow, sad to be going home!

New York: Day 4

We were everywhere from Brooklyn to the Bronx today! We started in Greenwich Village with a stop at the historic Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ movement. From there it was just a short walk to Jimmi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios. We saw tours buses flying by, not even pointing out this historic landmark! Lunch was at my favorite, Peanut Butter and Company. I got what I always do, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter, Raspberry preserves, shredded coconut on wheat bread.

While we were in the neighborhood we checked out Trash and Vaudeville and got an Egg Cream from Gem Spa. It was worth the walk in the heat, so good! Next up was Grand Central Station, just a quick walk around for Mommy while you rested with Daddy and Grandma in the food court. A short train ride later we were in FAO Schwartz, a very fun huge toy store! We got to see the Big Piano in action (Made famous in the movie Big). Grandma was a little tired so she got on the subway and took you back to the hotel. Daddy and I went on a tour of the history of Central Park. It was very nice, I got to see parts of the park that I never have seen before.

We grabbed a quick dinner at Papaya King (not nearly as good as Nathans) before heading up to Yankee Stadium to see Paul McCartney play. What an awesome show! It was truly a once and a lifetime experience to see him play Yankee Stadium. A train ride back to the hotel and bedtime, what a full day!
