Welcome to Genevieve's life!

Welcome to Genevieve's blog! My goal is to post a photo everyday to remember and document just how fast she is growing up. We don't want to miss anything!

Grandma and grandpas anniversary

Tonight we went to dinner at Magic Lamp in Rancho Cucamonga for Grandma and Grandpas wedding anniversary. Seems like every year we end up there for steak and baked potatoes. You were a good girl for most the meal and liked seating next to the window to see all the cars drive by, you really like the firetrucks and ambulances.

Earlier in the week I was able to go to the library at work and get an electronic copy of a photo of them from 1974 in the Cal Poly yearbook (yes, cal poly use to have a yearbook!).  Thought I would share it with everyone..

Grand Opening!

Tonight we went to the grand opening of Aunt Teresa's store in Rancho Cucamonga, Lulu Lemon. They had some food, lots of great people and of course lots of yoga clothes. You enjoyed running around the place, you even named the mannequins, Mommy and Daddy (weird how gender concepts are already so strong, even at age 2). We had a nice time and rushed home to make cookies for Ms. Nancy's birthday.

I like your shirt!

I got lots of compliments on my shirt today at work. When I walked in the door after work, you greeted me with the usual "Mama!" and running towards me, as I picked you up you said "I like your shirt mama". I swear I didn't even mention anything about my shirt. I guess it is just the wonderful, thanks for the compliment Genevieve!

Root Beer Float Social

Tonight we hosted a Root Beer Social for the neighborhood. Gino Fillipi (mayoral candidate) stopped by to say hello and talk with all of us about our concerns for the neighborhood (tree limbs, tree limbs, tree limbs!). We had about 20 people show up and enjoyed a beautiful rainbow to kick us off.

Earlier in the day when you were at Grandma and Grandpa's house you were trying to get the dog to play piano. You were very encouraging and told her "you try, you try". The beginning of a new band, you on vocals, the dog on piano! The dog was not very interested in playing though...

Step Stool

You just realized that the step stool we have for you in the bathroom works in other places to! It is perfect for helping you see out the window, or reach the table better. It is lightweight, and you are not afraid to take it where you feel it needs to go.

More parties!

Mama started off her day at a bridal shower for her friend Nicole (the one who was with me in the afternoon when I went into labor with you). Rushing from there, I rushed home, got you, and rushed off to Aubrey and Eric's birthday in Grand Terrace. Aubrey and Eric had a good time playing with you on a huge three level playhouse. You just went right up to the 3rd level, no need for mama. You are so daring Genevieve! They had a fun volcano cake that smoked and looked like it had lava coming out. 3 parties, 2 days, mama is tired!

Busy day! Party weekend begins

Today started with a small yard sale, didn't make much, but made me clean out everything, which was good. Aunt Christi stopped by with her dog and Maria drove by with the twins (one was happy, one was sad!). Clean up time and off to Noah's 2nd birthday party. You had a great time playing with all the sports gear they had out. You even got to hit the pinata a few times. After a very hearty lunch we headed back home, you took two naps today! I think I must have wore you out. You haven't taken two naps since you were a little baby.

Wrapping paper blanket

Leave it to you to come up with new uses for everyday things. Tonight you grabbed a role of wrapping paper (that I was trying to use to wrap a present) and spread it out on the floor as a blanket. You then flipped it over and put it on top of you and pretended to go to sleep. Who would have thought of using wrapping paper that way?

Beach time at the library

Grandma enrolled you in story time at the Rancho Cucamonga library. You have your class every Thursday. You sometimes sit down to listen to the story and sometimes you walk around. You are an independent spirit Genevieve for sure! Today was beach time at the library so you wore your dress I got you for Hawaii. You had a great time!

Matching Nighties

During our recent shopping trip to Kohls with Grandma you got a matching night gown set, one for you and one for your doll. I put on her outfit and you enjoyed carrying her around and putting her to bed. You have been going to bed in just a diaper, but this nightgown is so cute, it looks like this is your new nighttime wear!

So strong!

We got through 2 years of you not realizing the little ottomans moved (the currently block the fireplace). Something clicked and you realized you could pick them up and move them about the cabin so to speak. You enjoyed pushing and stacking them around the living room all night.

Clothes for Baby Lindsay

Mommy finally got a chance to go through your old baby things and made 3 large bags to pass on to Baby Lindsay. A big thanks to Nana and Papa who watched you for a few hours while I sorted. It is so sad to pass on baby things, but it makes it easier knowing another baby will get a chance to wear them and enjoy them as well. I love this little poem about baby clothes, makes me want a chance to use them again!

There’s something about unpacking them from  the boxes of all the clothes special enough… clean enough to save.
There’s something about holding them to your face, smelling them.

Remembering the last time you put a baby in these pajamas.
Remembering how his chubby legs filled out his pants, and how his round belly poured out the top.
Remembering how big you thought he was then.
Realizing how big he is now.
There’s something about a great hand-me-down.
There’s something about putting them on another baby.

Noticing how they’re a little baggy.
Knowing they’ll be a little too small too soon. Knowing they’ll only fit for a small window of time.
Knowing you’ll be packing them away again in the blink of an eye.
The beauty of a great hand-me-down is that, despite the fading and the tatters, or perhaps because of them, we are reminded how temporary phases and stages, favorite toys and clothes and things are in our children’s lives.
All the while, they make us remember what it was like to love a baby in that fleeting moment, and magnify our heart’s ability to grow infinitely to make room to love another who will fill out those pajamas… again… and again.

Newport Beach, Day 3

After a fun weekend it was time for one last breakfast and check out. We went to the Santa Ana Zoo on our way home, and you could feel the heat difference. Daddy took you on the carousal and you had so much fun. We enjoyed the monkeys, the goats, the turtles and the flamingos. A lot of the animals were smarter then us and they were in out of the heat. We had you take no nap all day and by 9:30 you fell asleep by yourself on the living room floor. It was so sweet... What a fun mini vacation that we had.

Newport Beach, Day 2

Day two was a busy one! We were lucky enough to order room service in the morning, and was it good! We got to eat out on our patio and you enjoyed your meal. We packed up and headed to meet Brian, Laura and baby Lindsay at Huntington Beach. They were all set up by the time we got there and you loved having a friend to play with. After a fun day in the sand, we went back to the hotel for more pool time. You made a friend at the pool named Sara from San Diego. You are so friendly Genevieve! We had some trouble deciding what to eat for dinner but ended up at The Daily Grill, so yummy!

Weekend in Newport Beach

Today we kicked off a 3 day weekend in Newport Beach. We started our day in Balboa and went to the arcade. You and daddy had a good time playing games. After we were done with the games, me and you rode the ferries wheel. You sat very still and enjoyed going round and round. We walked around a bit and headed out on a Seal Lion harbor tour. You were not a very good girl, wanted to walk around the boat, make lots of noise and not sit still. Daddy was not very happy with you. We saw a few sea lions and were glad to be back on land. After a pizza dinner, we headed to the Fairmont Newport Beach hotel to check in. The pool was beautiful and we went swimming in the evening. More beach tomorrow!

Grumpy the dog

You sure love Grumpy the dog! Grumpy is the dog that lives in the house next to us. You love giving him biscuits and he loves water. Turn on the hose and he goes crazy! He drinks the water through the fence and then does a few laps around the yard. He goes crazy! You both had a good time tonight.

Gift from Great Grandma and Grandpa

Grandma and Grandpa recently visited Great Grandma and Grandpa in Sedona. They sent this cute teddy bear over for you. It was a red heart that is a pouch that zips up. You like to put your coins in there for safe keeping from Daddy. You love playing with it.

Another day, another birthday! Today it was James's birthday and we went to My Gym in Rancho Cucamonga. It was a very fun indoor gym for kids and you had a fun time. playing, singing and of course chasing bubbles. Hopefully we will get to go another party there again, it was so much fun!

Yo Gabba Gabba Birthday Party

Tonight we were invited to attend a Yo Gabba Gabba birthday party. It was a backyard party with lots of yummy food. Plex and DJ Lance also showed up, imagine that! You had a good time playing with the other kids and you really enjoyed the trampoline as well. Aunt Teresa was there to help keep an eye on you as well, what a fun night.

Miss USA

You have fallen in love with swimming. You love splashing in the water, playing with Daddy and having a good time. You also have fallen in love with your red, white and blue light up sandals. Little lights sparkle every time you take a step, what could be better! Well, the best part are the sandals are hand me downs from Aubrey. She only got to wear them once, but you have worn them almost every day this summer.

Potty Training?!?

We are giving potty training a shot. We went and got you a baby potty, which you like to sit on, as long as you are fully clothed. Your dolls and rubber ducks also like to use the potty. I don't think you are ready yet, but we will see how this goes...

Potty Time, for your babies

Grandma sent me this update today:
Today Genevieve was having her doll go night night and go potty. I was trying to reinforce the potty idea and said then baby can go to Chuck E. Cheese if she goes potty. Well, wouldn't you know it, the baby doll went potty and Genevieve is headed out the door to go to Chuck E. Cheese, baby in hand.  I told her I was sorry, but it was pretend potty and pretend Chuck E. Cheese. The doll got to ride on her horse and we put pretend coins in.  She didn't get upset though

I fix it Mama, I fix it

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

You found the bucket with the trash in it that I cleaned up from around the yard, including the broken privacy slats from the fence. You kept saying I fix it mama, I fix it and trying to put them back in. Better then you trying to take the non broken ones out I guess!

Glue Mama, Glue

Not sure how paint became glue to you, but that is what you call your paints Adam and Judy got you for your birthday. You have been painting Mommy a picture every night, so many I am not sure what I am going to do with all of them! You love painting though, so I pull your glue out every night so you can make your masterpiece. Feel free to leave a comment if you would like to commission a piece from Genevieve...

Mission San Juan Capistrano

Off on another adventure! This time it was taking the train with the Maynard clan down to Mission San Juan Capistrano. We caught the train in Fullerton, and have a whirl wind didn't think we were going to make it, we made it on the train. Easy ride and off the train to a 3 block walk to the mission. The mission grounds were beautiful and bustling with lots of people. Some fun activities like panning for gold and making adobe bricks that were fun for older kids.

After a picnic lunch, we kind of let you kids lead the way around the mission. It was warm and crowded but we made it work. After we were down, we headed across the street to a beautiful new park off Rios Street. It was so pretty and a nice place for you guys to play until our train came. Easy ride back, and back in the car home!
