Kauai, Day 1

We made it! After coming in late last night we made it to our first day of fun. We started off the morning by heading up to Na'Aina Kai Botanical Gardens. They have a monthly Keiki Day (children's day) where the kids can play in the water and swing sets. You had a blast! You loved the slide, the swings, the chalk, the tree house, but really loved the fountain. When it comes to water you can usually pass it up just fine, but you loved getting into the fountain and playing. I hated to take you out, but nature had called to you in the middle of your playing and we had to change you.

Onto the Historic Kilauea Lighthouse. We made it there no problem and enjoyed seeing a monk seal off in the distance, a rain shower and some beautiful coastline. We stopped at North Shore Grindz for lunch, so good! I had a BBQ burger with an onion ring on it, was the best meal of the week. Next up Ke'e beach. A beautiful beach at the end of the road, literately at the end of the road.  So nice, pretty sand and calm seas. You even let Grandma take you into the water. You played a game with Daddy of dropping rocks and Daddy catching them in the water. You had such a fin time!

We stopped at two caves on the way out, a wet cave and a dry cave. You were not impressed, you kept yelling "no cave, no cave" as we were in them. Last stop for the day was Queen's Bath. The street's are not well identified in Hawaii, as lots of streets have no street signs or missing letters. After some hunting we found it headed down the trail. The trail is exciting and not for the faint of heart. Two waterfalls great you as you walk down. Nana had enough about half way down and turned back, Grandma came about 3/4 of the way and offered to stay with you while we went the rest of the way. It was worth it! I had a wonderful time swimming in the natural ocean pool and saw lots of little fish around the edges. Headed back to the hotel and had a wonderful roasted chicken for dinner. Another full day tomorrow!

On the road, in the air, we are off!

On the road, in the air and on our way we left for Kauai today. We drove to LAX, parked our car and took the shuttle over to the airport. Genevieve liked Grandma singing Wheels on the Bus the whole way. Checked in and got on the plane without incident. Genevieve you fell asleep as soon as the plane took off (perfect!) and had a great 3 hour nap. Easy transfer in Oahu and we landed in Kauai. Picked up our car and headed to the hotel by 11:30pm. Full day tomorrow!

Changing Table

When you were newborn Genevieve you fit on the changing pad with room to spare on either end. You couldn't even roll over and were so easy to change. Now you are huge, fight me, and like to hold conversation during diaper changes. I am looking forward to potty training!

Salad for dinner?

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.5

You sure surprised me tonight Genevieve! I made a salad for dinner and there you were, eating spinach right along side me. That is a huge change from your usual requests of cookies, ice cream and chocolate. Maybe you will like veggies after all!

Genevieve in a Pot

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.5

This time you got in the pot voluntary! (unlike when I put you inside a pot with your lobster costume for your 1st Halloween) We were over at Great Grandma's house and you found this big pot. You kept putting this teddy bear in it and the lid on top, I don't think to cook it, but to push him around. Soon enough you got in the pot, but couldn't get out. I had to give you a hand out of the pot!

Service for Uncle Mike

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.5

Today was the burial and reception for Daddy's Uncle Mike. You got to meet lots of family on the Lara side that you never had met before and got to see your Grandpa and Grandma Lara. You played with cousins Madison, Ethan and Dominic while we said goodbye to your Grandpa Raul's brother. I included a picture of Mommy and Mike from 2005. You ate a lot at the reception and were a very good girl for Mommy and Daddy.

Victoria Gardens

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.5

This morning I took you over to Victoria Gardens for a small shopping trip. You knew exactly where you wanted to go and in what order: slide, horses, water, train. I am amazed at your memory, Grandma and Grandpa take you to the mall sometimes, but you remembered everything and even led the way to our next stop. You were a little scared of the water and preferred to just get splashed by it instead of going all the way in. Which was fine by me because I didn't have a change of clothes for you. Mommy got her shopping in to!

A night on your own

The nights are few and far between, but every once in a while you sleep through the night in your own bed. Those are glorious night for Mommy because I can stretch out not end up with a foot in my back. Hopefully we will have more nights like this!

Taking Notes

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.5

You were flipping through the notepad, pen in one hand, making scribbles on every other page or so. You were really concentrating Genevieve! Your writing is getting much clearer as you can put enough pressure on the pen now to make scribbles on the page. Soon enough you will be writing letters and numbers, oh my!

Cookie Butter

For any of you out there that have not tried Cookie Butter from Trader Joes, you are missing out! Tastes like delicious gingerbread cookies with the creamy texture of peanut butter. Genevieve found our jar of cookie butter and just like her mommy, ate it right out the jar (you may want to get your own jar!).

Sunglasses!

You never use to like your sunglasses Genevieve. I would be putting them on your head with one hand, snap pictures with the other, as you ripped them off. I guess we must of convinced you that they were ok at the beach on Sunday, because now you like to wear them! Maybe I will get my money's worth out of them after all!

Happy Father's Day 2012

Happy 2nd Fathers Day to Daddy! You picked out a nice pair of sandals for Daddy for our upcoming Hawaii vacation. We went to Huntington Beach to spend the day. You started the day crying about the sand, digging from your chair. But as the day wore on you warmed up to it, even made a friend at a near by tent. When we got home we went to visit Grandpa to wish him a happy fathers day as well.

Maloof Gardens

I won't give the secret away but I got some photos of you today to send out with your 2nd birthday party invitations. I took you back to the Sam Maloof house in Rancho Cucamonga where I did you 1st birthday photos as well. This year was a lot more challenging because you DO NOT like to sit, walk or better yet run is what you prefer. You wore me down, but I think I got some that I could use. Be on the look out for the invitations soon!

The "look"

You are your own person Genevieve for sure now! When Mama tells you no, or to stop, you have this look you get on our face (top photo). A "really, your asking me to stop?!?" look! It is funny but I try to keep a straight face so you won't think I think it is funny, but it kind of is...

Biscut? Biscut?

You love the dog next door Genevieve. His name is Grumpy (though I call him Grover) and you love to give him dog biscuits. Almost every morning you ask to give him one and at least 2-3 times during the day. Sometimes I get lucky and he isn't outside, otherwise you won't let it go till we give him his biscuit. You like to drop it over the fence to him because you are scared to feed him through the fence. Grumpy usually catches the biscuit coming down and chomps away at it. Also, you like when I spray water through the fence for him to drink. He goes crazy and you love to laugh and squeal!

New Camera Lens!

I finally ordered my new camera lens, and it is so much fun! I had a good time testing it out on Genevieve tonight while she played in the sprinkler. Well, the idea anyway was to play in the sprinkler, she thought it would be fun to walk up and down the sidewalk to. I still have lots to learn but so far am impressed with what I have done!

New Outfit from Nana and Papa

Genevieve you came home in this cute outfit today from Nana and Papa's house. The top is cute but the shorts are really the cutest part of it! Of course the minute you came home you started digging in the dirt and it was no longer white, but I got a few photos in before it changed color!

Magazine from Work

Mommy's letter to the editor was published in the magazine at work. I was trying to get a picture of you holding the magazine, but you were not having it. I am also quoted in another article and a brief of me in the back, I am famous!

Sprinkler Fun

Today you so much fun in the sprinkler outside. Mommy bought you a water toy at Target, just hook it up to the hose, turn it on and it is ready to use! At first you weren't sure what to do with it but after a few demonstrations from Daddy and me you were jumping through and having a good time. You looked so cute in your swimsuit as well.

Olivedale Park

We are lucky we haev a park so close to the house. It is just a five minute walk or so to Olivedale Park. You love going to swing, go down the slide and have me chase you around. Sometimes it is busy with parties and lots of people hanging out, other times we have it all to ourselves. I like taking you to the park Genevieve!

(I should explain the last picture. I have a potato sack that I have been trying to get you in to take a picture of you. It hasn't been working out and you can see from the photo you really don't like it...)
