Welcome to Genevieve's life!

Welcome to Genevieve's blog! My goal is to post a photo everyday to remember and document just how fast she is growing up. We don't want to miss anything!

Happy 2nd Birthday Genevieve!

Today's the day! You are officially 2 now! We couldn't let the day go unmarked, even though you did have your party Sunday, so we had a smaller party at home for you. Daddy had already made plans (Bobblehead give away, Dodgers) so Mommy invited family and Grandma, Grandpa, Nana and Aunt Teresa came over. We had pulled pork for dinner and of course, cake! You enjoyed everyone singing Happy Birthday for you and even blew out your candle. What a big girl!

Last full day of being 1

It was your last full day of being one, I can't believe it! You did you last Fun with One class today and in the evening you asked to go say hello to Miles and Lola. You ended up swimming for a bit and then painting with the new paints/pad that Adam and Judy gave you for your birthday. It was much more enjoyable on my end then being in labor (which I was 2 years ago today!).

Genevieve's 2nd Birthday Party!

I will put up more photos when I get them from our photographer (AKA Garrett's awesome cousin Lisa) but till then, here are a few from the day. We had Genevieve's 2nd birthday at the Chino Youth Museum, and it turned out great! All of the details of the party were perfect and everyone had a good time. We ended up having 65, yes 65, people there, oh wow! Lucky for us, 21 of those were kids so they were out playing and cycling through to get food and say hello to DJ Lance and Plex who joined us from Gabba land. When we got home I asked Genevieve, how did you like your party Genevieve? Her only reply, Plex scary. Character fail on Mommy's part I guess! It was a great day, thank you to everyone for coming!

Count down to Birthday Party!

What a busy day! Tomorrow is your birthday party and there is so much to do! Food to make, decorations to finish and details to address. Nana watched you in the evening so Mommy and Daddy could finish up things. Pool fun time in the afternoon.

Frontier Project

We finally made it! In Rancho Cucamonga I have been wanting to visit the Frontier Project, a eco friendly/sustainable place that is only open M-F. We were the only ones there, not even a receptionist! It was fun to see all the great ways they were able to incorporate green ideas. The Hardyman family met us there as well, it is really hard to get 3 kids to sit still long enough to take a photo! This is the best I could do, above... I would recommend a trip for anyone who had never been, it is free and an awesome way to spend an hour or so!

Backdrop, done!

We did it! Daddy and I designed a photography backdrop to use at your party. A few "redesign" moments came up, but for less then $10 we got a totally custom backdrop that is multifunctional for a long time! I designed it so a twin bedsheet would be the perfect width across and down. This sucker is almost 7' tall! Next design will include a heavier base, because right now we need to weight it down.

Nana's House

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

After work I stopped by Nana's house to pick you up. You had your nice outfit on that Nana bought you and were having the time of your life running around the yard. You were getting a little daring and jumping over the dirt borders from grass to concrete, all the while I yelled, please be careful! You didn't want to leave, but it was time to go...

Normal Everyday Us

We haven't had a photo together for awhile Genevieve and I think this is a perfect one. No makeup, or fancy hair, you don't even have a shirt on! But this is us, everyday us, laughing, having fun and loving every minute of our time together. I love you Genevieve!

Fun with Ones (and Mommy!)

Mommy had today off so I got to take you to your Fun with One's class, your 2nd to last one! Because I am not usually there, you were a little off, but we had a good time. Grandma joined us to. After your class Grandma took you back to her house so Mommy could work on things for your party. So many things to do and get ready before Sunday!

Morongo Pool Day

You were all geared up for another day of pool fun. This time we went out to Morongo Resort and used their pool, we even got a cabana! Daddy took you on the water slide a few times, Mommy and you floated on the lazy river, but your favorite was riding on Daddy's back in the baby pool. By days end you were happy to rest in the cabana and watch Disney Jr. on TV, and Mommy was happy to have you want to rest so I could get some sun.

Pool Time Fun

It is hard to keep you out of the pool now Genevieve! Hard to imagine just a few short weeks ago you hated anything water related. Now you are a jumping, paddling, dare devil in the pool. You don't want to get out!

Red Lobster

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

We have no food, we are lazy and cheap. We looked through our gift cards and found a red lobster card that was calling our name! You were a pretty good girl, enjoyed playing the sugar packets and eating biscuits. This afternoon we had a good time in the pool across the street. You are really taking to the water! You were jumping off the side of the pool into our arms and even went in the floaties. You were kicking you legs and saying "swim, swim". Maybe you will like the pool after all!

Upland Market Night

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

Tonight we had time to go up to the Thursday night Market Night in Downtown Upland. You kept wanting to pull the wagon, but kept falling down, or going so slow I had to take over. We bought strawberries and peaches and even petted a horse. You really didn't like being so close to the horse. The horse tried to munch on the wood part of your wagon while we were petting him. Now we have horse teeth marks on the side!

I love this post!

As I cruised the internet the other day, I came across this "Letter to my 51 year old self" on a blog called Baby Rabies from Jill. It really resonated with me, I hope you enjoy it to:

http://www.babyrabies.com/2012/07/a-letter-to-my-51-year-old-self/

Dear Me 20 Years From Now,
I wonder if you’ve become one of those women who briefly lingers around, a safe distance behind, young moms carting their babies and toddlers through the grocery store with that far-off look in your eyes. If you gently smile at the mom when she looks up and catches your glance, obviously frazzled by how challenging taking 2 kids grocery shopping is, as if to tell her it’s going to be okay. If you look at her and miss that time, want so badly to trade 5 minutes of the independence you have now that your kids are much older so that you can rest a toddler’s head on your shoulder, or buckle a baby in their car seat, mindful not to pinch any belly chub in the harness.
I have a feeling that you might be, and there are some things I want you to know, some things I’m willing you to remember.
I want you to remember that they were the hardest thing you’d ever done. They challenged you, and they kept you up at night. They pushed your buttons, and they were never, ever quiet… unless they were in trouble. I want you to remember that you loved them the hardest you’ve ever loved anything, from day one, and every day after that.
I want you to know that you were completely overwhelmed nearly all the time. The thought of taking them anywhere by yourself made you want to hide in bed all day. You were overwhelmed by the responsibility. You had NO clue what you were doing. You were overwhelmed by how much they trusted you and how much they needed you. You were overwhelmed by how much you needed and loved them.
I want you to remember how it felt to lay side by side next to your 4-year-old before he drifted off to sleep. How you talked face to face, nose to nose, about his day. How you told him you were excited to see how much he would grow by the morning, and how in the morning you’d lay in bed next to him and stretch his arms and legs out, exclaiming, “LOOK HOW MUCH YOU GREW LAST NIGHT!” How that put the biggest smile on his face.
I want you to remember what it felt like to hold your 18 month old on your lap, wrapping your arms around her and laying them on her bulging tummy. How the back of her head and the handful of baby curls at the nape of her neck felt and smelled when you rested your head atop hers.
I want you to know that you were acutely aware of how fast they were growing. Even though many days would pass in the blink of an eye, there would always be a moment when your world would snap to a halt, and you would look at them while they were doing something mundane and normal, and you would be painfully conscious that they were no longer the size they were last week, and that they would never be the size they are at that moment again.
I want you to know that you went to bed every night with one simple wish for the next day. To just do better.
Even though you were tired and challenged, exasperated and overwhelmed, you knew then that you would miss these days…most of them, at least. It was a truth that was hard to live with, and most of the time you ignored it because there was nothing you could do about the passing of time. If you spent your days mourning the ones that had gone by, you’d miss out on the days you were living in.
You knew you were on a light rail, moving at speeds you couldn’t comprehend. You had no control over the ride that brought you to where you are today, but believe me when I say you searched so very hard to find the emergency brake.
Please know, please remember that you tried to savor that time. Be at peace, knowing you spent late afternoons curled up with them on the couch, that sometimes you just sat and watched them move and run, that occasionally you took inventory of all the things they’d learned in the last week, and that you appreciated your time with them the best you knew how. Know that despite your very best efforts, there was no way to freeze time.
I promise you, you tried.
Love,
you

Hippo Pool

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

Nana and Papa set up your hippo pool and boy do you love it! You cried when they took you out to eat dinner and when I got there, you somehow convinced me to let you go back for one more round. It has a sprinkler that shoots out of the back of his head as well. You will get to play more on Thursday when you go back!

Chuck E Cheese

You are officially obsessed with Chuck E Cheese. You say it in your sleep, you ask for it at least once a day and get really excited to drink out of your Chuck E Cheese cup. Today Grandma took you and you had a good time. Mommy tells you when you go potty in the toilet I will take you, you say "ok, mama" and then forget everything I told you! Till then, Grandma is going to have to take you I guess...

Bolsa Chica State Beach

A fun afternoon at the beach today with Mommy's friend Dora, her daughter Amber and Daddy. It took you a while to warm up to the sand again, but once you did you were off. It is kind of nice when you don't want to touch it because you stay in one place. You didn't like the ocean again, but hey between the pool and sand, we are getting somewhere!

Nursing goals almost met

As your 2nd birthday approaches I can 't help be proud of myself for keeping my goal of nursing for 2 years. Considering it is the minimum recommendation from World Health Organization it doesn't seem like it should be a big one but less then 8% of woman are still breastfeeding at 2 years. For me, it is my best parenting tool, it keeps you quiet, puts you to sleep, cures ouches and provides cuddle time. I really don't know what I would do without it!  I love this quote, because I won't know what the last time is, so I try to savor every nursing session we have as it may be our last...

I do not know the moment that you will stop nursing. I do not know the moment that you will stop comforting yourself to sleep with the closeness of me. I do not know the moment that you will move off and be fully independent with a life of your own creation. I know that you will do each of these things when it is time for you to do them. And I know that I will smile with pride at your independence even if I want to hold on a little longer. - Sarah on Nurshable

Pretend City

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

Tip of the day: Don't go to Pretend City on buy one get one free day. Parking was a nightmare, had to park on the street about a .25 mile away, which really isn't that far in less you are carrying a baby, a diaper bag and a yucky banana peel the baby will not let you throw away. We waited in line to get in as well, but once we were in we had a good time. We met Mommy's friend Yvette, her daughter Charlotte and son Tre and had a good time going through all the exhibits. We played in the marina, police station, fire station, mailroom, house, park, beach, farm, grocery store and more. Lots to see and do, next time we will pay full price!

Genevieve meet Plex

Tonight Daddy brought home a 3 1/2 foot tall Plex! You didn't know much what to make of it, but you sure took your time examining it and slowly getting closer to it. We will use it at your birthday party as decoration. Just a few more weeks and it will be here!

Color Color

If you see a pen Genevieve you almost demand to color! You love drawing, but always with pen. You don't care much for markers or crayons, I wish you did, they would be easier to wash off!

Peanut Butter

Tonight I let you eat chocolate peanut butter straight from the jar like Mommy does. To say you enjoyed it would be an understatement! The hardest part was getting you not to touch anything until I could clean you up.

Downtown Upland

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

We had an errand to do in downtown Upland tonight and we walked up there. No stroller or carrier, just Mommy's two arms and you walking (some what). Boy, was I tired by the time we made it home! Next time we will bring the wagon or stroller.

Silly Playtime

Tonight you loved playing with all your toys! You were using the cloth napkin as a blanket for your baby and wore Daddy's goggles around the house. You had a good time playing and rediscovering all of your toys.

Post Hawaii Hang over

Well, you didn't adjust to the time yet. You fell asleep at 7pm tonight for a nap (4pm Hawaii time). We tried getting you up at 8:00 but you just walked over to the carpet and laid down and went back to sleep. It is going to be a long night....

Kauai, Day 7

Last day in Hawaii! Nana's flight left early so it was Grandma, Daddy, Mommy and you on the way home together. We spent the morning packing, cleaning up and wondering why we bought so much while we were there. We gave our left over food to the nice family next door. Before you woke up, Daddy and I went down to the water and looked at the fish in the tide pool, so pretty!

We returned the car, made our flights ok. I am glad they served us a meal on board because there was no food in the Honolulu airport by us! We caught the shuttle to our car and were home by 1am. Since you took a 3 hour nap on the plane, we were all up till 2 before we went to sleep.
